Sawmill Sunday🪵🪚 Setting up the sawmill for a day of cutting. Well, this is how it would look today if it wasn’t single digits with snow on the ground🥶 👉 Masterfully back the sawmill into position. 👉 Stabilizers are deployed and leveled with the help of A91 Custom blocks. 👉 Hydraulics and log lift readied for use. 👉 Check the sawmill bed for level (really the only thing I’m allowed to do during setup) 👉 Add a log and get to cutting🕺 #sawmill #woodworker #oak #bandsawmill #localmaterials

Sawmill Time 🪵🪚 I often get asked “what happens if there is a nail in the log?” Great question! Change the blade and get back to cutting. Is the old blade ruined? Maybe! But lots of time it can be resharpen. Lucky for me Corey has an automatic sharpener 💃🕺 I haven’t figured out if it can do my bandsaw blades yet……yet😳 #sawmill #woodworker #localmaterials #bandsawmill

Paper Birch😳🪵🪚 Ever mill a large white paper birch log before? Neither have I. Let’s see what’s inside 📺👀 If you pay attention you know I remove the bark before going into the solar kiln. Walnut😍 Milling up some lovely 8/4 walnut I cut last summer. It came out of the solar kiln at 7.5% and is ready to go. The tree grew on a historic property a few miles from my shop. The walnut was dried in the solar kiln retaining all the natural purples and chocolate tones. In the solar kiln it doesn’t get as high a temp as commercial kilns. It is a much gentler drying cycle. #woodworker #woodworking #woodshop #walnut #localmaterials
