One of Maine’s best winter traditions takes place from Jan 31-Feb 2, the 34th annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships in Camden, Maine! 🛷 It is believed to be the only organized traditional wood toboggan race in the country – possibly in the world. Hundreds of toboggans race down the 400-foot-long chute in a quest for the fastest time, spiraling out onto the frozen Hosmer Pond, sometimes as far as a quarter mile! It’s a festive winter weekend full of excitement and enthusiasm. Make new friends by the fire or try to work your way into one of the many ice fishing tailgate huts. You can always stop by the tent for beer, mulled wine or a nice cocktail from Hunt & Alpine too (liquid courage if you’re competing!). This tradition truly embodies the Maine spirit and is a fun, free event for the whole family, so bundle up and check it out! If you’re looking for a place to stay for the weekend, I’d suggest 250 Main Hotel, Rockport Harbor Hotel, The Quarters, and 16 Bay View. 🛎️
