When I first met @maisy on the pilot episode of Nashville she was only 8 years old, but already it was clearly apparent that, like her incredible older sister @Lennon Stella, she wasn’t just adorable and full of the purest joy, she was deeply, almost weirdly, talented. She already had that preternaturally beautiful voice and could instantly sing harmony lines it would take many talented adults several minutes to figure out. But then, on top of it all, in front of that camera, she was all the things it’s the hardest to be: natural, in-the-moment and, as was often needed on our show, authentically emotional. Again and again, and with a lot of hard work, she continued to get better and better. By the final seasons, she consistently blew me away and left me in full wonder at my strangely gifted young friend. Because that, above all else, was what she was, and is: my pal. And boy did we laugh along the way! That is why, like her real-world family, I am absolutely bursting with pride, and yet not really surprised at all that, for her incredible starring performance in the wonderful independent film “My Old Ass,” she was named this year’s @Critics Choice Awards Best Young Performer!
