It took me a long time to fully realize that the reason I struggled with making new friends after all these years was because of the toxicity she created. Our friendship was built on a foundation of manipulation and insecurity, and I only saw it clearly when she decided to walk away. For years, I was constantly made to feel like I had to boost her ego repeatedly complimenting her and constantly reassuring her that she looked beautiful, even though that was how I genuinely saw her. But it wasn’t just the compliments it was the subtle remarks she made to tear me down. Looking back, it’s clear that a lot of her behavior was rooted in jealousy, and she used that to make me feel small and unworthy or sometimes even stupid. I always gave everything in that friendship, even going as far as befriending people she didn’t like just to make her happy and make it known to her she will always be number one, above all! But despite all the effort I put in, it never felt like she truly cared about me. It felt like she only reached out when she was bored or had nothing else to do or just wanted to rant about her boy problems and never care to understand the things I was going through at times. I just felt ignored and betrayed. People in my life warned me for years that she was toxic, but I stayed in the friendship because I genuinely thought she was my best friend. In the end, I realized I was the only one giving, and I deserved so much more. I know now that a true best friend is someone who lifts you up, values you for who you are, and supports you in both good times and bad. They show genuine care, not just when it's convenient, but all the time whether you're having an amazing day or struggling with something heavy. A true friend would celebrates your successes without jealousy, and they're there for you without needing to be constantly reassured of their worth. They make you feel seen, heard, and valued, not used or manipulated. They give as much as they take, and their love isn’t conditional or tied to their own insecurities. A true best friend is a safe space, not someone who leaves you feeling small or unsure of yourself. #foryou #traitor #manipulater #fakefriend #maturing
