Is your faith in God, a church, or a man? I know that I can come of critical of religion and I want to make something clear. I do not criticize anyone’s gospel. In fact, most are quite beautiful. I was raised with the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS/Mormon), and it taught me the values of loving and caring for others above all beside God. Our gospel and Jesus taught so many amazing things. •Pay taxes ➡️ “Give Caesar what is his” •Healthy food for all ➡️ “Feed my sheep” •Equitable, useful education ➡️ “Teach a man to fish” •Respect all ➡️ “Love thy neighbor as thyself” •Universal income, healthcare ➡️ “Care for the poor, sick, and needy” •Beware excessive wealth ➡️ “No one can serve God and money” Mormon Gospel •Humans should have choice, agency over their bodies (they teach that’s why Satan was cast to hell, he didn’t want anyone to have choice 👀) •God’s most important word is the one in your own heart ➡️ “personal revelation” •Our sins are already forgiven, we just have to always work to be better (balancing grace and works) •Don’t stereotype, profile, or marginalize ➡️ “Men should be punished for their own sins (let’s just call them what they are—actions)” The LDS have wonderful teachings, as do all religions. It’s these teachings that showed me I needed to leave religion to live them. My problem is not with gospel or belief. I criticize any and all religious institutions (church corporations) that don’t champion policies solidifying universal supports for all people from government. Any church that isn’t for all people is part of the problem. They certainly aren’t a Christ-like church, anyway. My problem is with corporate greed. Challenge any church or corporation who cares more about conversion/colonization/conformity or regulating control over others than about helping the needy of the world. Happy New Year’s ya’all!
