Moments like these are what make this Hobby so special and unforgettable. A few weeks ago, I visited @grandslamcollectibles where the card shop owner, Nate, pointed out a young collector named George. Every week, George would come in with his dad to open classic packs from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Nate introduced me to George and his dad, Mark, who were both incredibly kind and genuine people. We opened packs together, hoping to pull the iconic 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card. While we didn’t find it, we shared stories, and one that stuck with me was Mark’s. As a kid, he had the Mark McGwire Olympic rookie card, but unfortunately, it was taken from him and he has never owned one since. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and the video with George and Mark was enjoyed by millions. Among those who saw it was a collector named Travis. After watching, Travis visited Grand Slam Collectibles and miraculously pulled two Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards from packs of ’89 Upper Deck. He commented on the post, wanting to gift one to George, and that’s exactly what happened. Mark, George, and Travis met up, and George received the Griffey rookie card. His smile said it all. Inspired by Travis’s kindness, I decided to send Mark the Mark McGwire Olympic rookie card, this time secured in a Hobby Case, along with another Hobby Case for George’s new Griffey rookie card. They were kind enough to record and share their reactions with all of us. Thank you, George and Mark. Happy collecting!
