The
#1 question I get asked is how I became a color specialist. My answer: training—lots of it. But before I became a hairdresser, I want to share a little about myself. I’m Asian, and my natural hair is a level 1, incredibly dark. Before I became a hairdresser, I would visit salons to get my hair done, always asking for cool tones. But every time I left, my hair was warm and brassy. The answer I got from stylists was always the same: “Because your hair is so dark, that’s impossible.” When I became a hairdresser, I was fortunate to train under someone who also had dark hair. She understood how to achieve cooler tones and taught me techniques to minimize warmth. From that point on, I dedicated myself to mastering the craft. Now, I put so much time and effort into my work, especially when working with darker hair. It’s not easy, but with patience and teamwork (thank you to my assistant!), I’m proud to deliver icy tones for my clients every time. For anyone aspiring to be a color specialist: keep learning, practicing, and never stop perfecting your skills!
