Rats love to dig! I will always recommend you have a deep layer substrate over the entire base of your cage, they benefit from it so much! Twice a week, Krysa gets her little supplement blend for her skin and coat. We use a 100% green-lipped mussel powder and the vetoquinol omega-3 fish oil for dogs and cats. We give these spaced out only twice a week, because too much Vitamin A is very hard on their liver, and most fish products are very high in Vitamin A. How we travel with our rats! Another good thing to note if you’re going somewhere significantly far from home and for an extended period of time is to find a local vet (especially emergency vet) if you can. Rats are a bit neophobic (afraid of new things) by nature, so keeping things as familiar as possible can really help them on a journey like this. Our older girls are very familiar with travel at this point, and I think their calmness helps the others to be calm as well.
