I found my 13 month old son unresponsive upon pick up from his in home daycare providers house. My sweet baby was abused by this monster and he fought for his life for over 21 days. His injuries were horrific. Injuries he will spend a lifetime trying to recover from. My husband was deployed on an aircraft carrier on the other side of the world. Internet was in an out and the gravity of the situation left me making decisions I never thought I would have to make at a very rapid pace. Meanwhile, worrying and handing the logistics of my other two kids and pets. As a military spouse you expect deployment time to be “a lot,” but this was beyond an out of body experience. It was the most alone I’ve ever felt. BUT, not only am I a military spouse…I am a mother…and moms know how to put their big girl pants on even when it’s this hard. I advocated for my son. Here’s a look at what my 7-month-old’s wake windows usually look like. 🫶🏻 Depending on her mood and the time of day, they can be as short as 2 hours or stretch to over 3. This is what I typically try to do: • Start by feeding her • Have some playtime to work on new skills and practice independent play • Spend time outside for fresh air • Feed her solids (we are currently feeding her solids twice a day) • Read a few books together • Put her in her bouncer for about 10-15 minutes so I can get a few things done When she starts showing signs of being tired, I feed her again so she has a full belly before going down for a nap. Every wake window is a little different, but aim to do these things!
