Over three years ago, I bought a 1905 Victorian home that included a burned out, carriage house loft. The story goes that the caretaker was smoking a cigarette, and before he knew it, the loft was up in flames. Here’s a short video about the renovation process. I think it turned out so cute. 🌸The renovation was definitely not for the faint of heart. And a lot of extra steps had to be taken because of the burned out areas. Visit mindenstays.com to book a stay in this Barbie inspired loft in historic Minden, Louisiana! Then, visit my LTK or Amazon shop for links to shop this space. We hope to see you soon in the friendliest city in the south! #mindenla #homerenovation #homeproject #louisianalove #explorelouisiana #travelgram #superhost #airbnbexperience #airbnbstay #renovation #renovationproject #creatorsearchinsights
These apartments used to have a bad reputation. The slums, drug infested, trouble…. People said I was crazy for buying them. Well, there’s one thing about me if you haven’t figured it out. I’m not a conventional type of girl. I go against norms. I break rules. I mostly don’t follow trends. I live my life on my own terms. And while this is a risky way of living, it also has the greatest reward. I left my safe comfortable W2 job when I was 41, and 6 years later I can tell you it was absolute the best decision. I wake up scared most days bc I know how quickly everything can fall apart. But I purposefully choose this unconventional life because it offers the most freedom, flexibility, and financial reward. This affordable housing complex now finished but let’s revisit this project I started two years ago. Join me here for all the fun and allow me to also inspire you to reclaim and restore your life and your home. 💕 #renovation #renovationproject #affordablehousing #affordablehome #mindenla #louisiana #homerenovation #homeproject
We were awarded the grant!!!!! If you saw my stories earlier in the week, I was supposed to go to Tulsa Thursday through Saturday to present to the amazing @ladiesof798 seeking grant funding for Phillip’s Cottage, my new nonprofit in Minden, Louisiana that serves to create transitional homes for women with children that graduate from Louisiana Teen Challenge. Sadly, the weather didn’t cooperate and they agreed I could make a video and send. My Executive Director @brandi_cade and I got together and created this plea from our hearts to help us get this project off the ground! And we got word late last night that we were chosen!! We are on cloud nine. I know my dad is dancing in heaven and celebrating with us. I’ll go to Tulsa in April for the official award ceremony and will let y’all know the amount then. We still have a long way to go to make this project a reality. We are stepping out on faith before we have all of the funds. If you are able to help us through a tax deductible gift, visit Phillipscottage.org and you can invest in generational change. Dear @ladiesof798, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Thank you for investing in these mamas and their babies.❤️❤️ #nonprofit #nonprofitorganization #homerenovation #renovation #renovationproject #louisiana #teenchallenge #louisianateenchallenge #mindenla #creatorsearchinsights
If you find yourself in Minden Louisiana, you must stop by Brick Street Coffee and grab a Mardi Gras croffle. Oh my word. It’s soooooo good. It’s a croissant made into a waffle with icing. It’s a must have this Mardi Gras season in Louisiana! #Foodie #foodtiktok #explorelouisiana #louisianatravel #mindenla #croffle #FoodTok #foodreview
My team and I have searched high and low for pictures and stories of “the old Spanish apartments” in Minden, Louisiana. For reasons unknown to us they went out of use at some point in the 1980s, and sat vacant for over 40 years. The minute I laid eyes on them, I knew they needed to be saved. But I had no idea the depth of this renovation nor the ways that it would change me forever. Late last summer, we got a note that a former resident was coming to stay in the units she lived in as a child. Because these old apartments were built in 1931, it’s extremely difficult to find firsthand experiences from actual residents. But Ms. Jerry Aronoff came all the way from Michigan to spend a few days in the old apartments that played a role in her growing up years. She brought us a few pictures and we were elated to see interior photos for the first time of the way these apartments were in ye days of ole. I took her pictures and put them in the exact location inside the apartments for perspective. I got chills. Swipe through to see Jerry’s images along with the modern day, updated renovation, plus the state of the room when I took this project on. Then, at the end, be sure to read the newspaper article announcing the first apartments in Minden, Louisiana. So many people said these should just be torn down. But then history would’ve been lost forever. And Jerry would not have been able to return to a place so formative to her growing up years. This is why I’ve made it my life’s mission to take blighted and abandoned properties and breathe new life into them. It’s exhausting, EXPENSIVE work, but nobody ever said leaving a legacy would be easy. If you find yourself in our area, our perhaps you just want to experience this historic property for yourself, we would be honored to host you. Book your stay at mindenstays.com.
