How to Get Started Snowshoeing as a Beginner👇 ✨Save to Plan Your Snowshoeing Adventure! I was so lost when I first wanted to snowshoe, but after going a few times and renting and buying gear, I’ve realized it’s not that complicated, and basically just a winter hike! Here are some things you need to know to get started: ✨How to Find a Snowshoe Trail - Search on @alltrails with the filter set to snowshoeing! Read recent reports and find one with reports from the last week or so - Find a Nordic center near you! This is probably the easiest way, and you can often find snowshoe trail maps online or in person at the center. This is where you can also rent gear and sometimes book a guided hike ✨What to Wear & Bring - I pack the same essentials I do for a hike, making sure to bring and SOS device and extra layers! - What I’m Wearing: - @rei baselayer - @prana hiking pants - @dannerboots hiking boots - @darntoughvermont socks - @cotopaxi puffy - @patagonia fleece & rain jacket - @retrospec snowshoes - @hillsoundequipment microspikes ✨Avalanche Risk - This is mostly a concern in the backcountry, on slopes, and ridges. Most beginner trails won’t have Avalanche risk but it’s always good to check! ✨Prepare Your Car - Most mountain roads require snow tires and/or snow chains in winter, so check local road restrictions and conditions before heading out! I have a @toyotausa 4Runner with 4WD, switch to snow tires in winter, and have chains in my car in case of emergency ✨Other Snowshoe Tips: - Keep extra socks and shoes in your car to change for the ride home - Go in a group for safety - Rent gear your first time - Have a downloaded map in case the trail is hard to find in the snow - Use webcams to check road conditions and the snow levels at Nordic and ski centers Have you been snowshoeing? Or want to start? Drop any other questions in the captions!
