🎉✨ Exciting news for Aaliyah fans! On January 16, 2025, Mattel released a commemorative Barbie doll honoring the late R&B icon Aaliyah, coinciding with what would have been her 46th birthday. The doll is inspired by Aaliyah’s iconic look from her “One in a Million” music video, featuring a sleek leather jacket and cargo pants. Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, collaborated with Mattel to ensure the doll captures her essence, stating that this tribute would have been a dream come true for her. The collectible Barbie, retailing for $55, sold out online within 30 minutes of its release. Fans can expect restocks on Mattel’s and Target’s websites by January 26. "500 Miles" (also known as "500 Miles Away from Home" or "Railroaders' Lament") is a song made popular in the United States and Europe during the 1960s folk revival. The simple repetitive lyrics offer a lament by a traveler who is far from home, out of money and too ashamed to return. The song is generally credited as being written by Hedy West, and a 1961 copyright is held by Atzal Music, Inc. "500 Miles" is West's "most anthologized song". Some recordings have also credited Curly Williams, or John Phillips as co-writers, although Phillips admitted he had only rearranged it and "didn't deserve the credit". David Neale writes that "500 Miles" may be related to the older folk song "900 Miles" (Roud 4959), which may itself have origins in the southern American fiddle tunes "Reuben's Train" and "Train 45". Johnny Cash is known to have included "500 Miles" on his list of 100 essential country songs in the early 1970s.(Wiki) Here is Joan Baez performing the song. #500miles #folk #joanbaez #hedywest #dimestoreradio #folkmusic #SocialJustice #FolkLegend #MusicIcon #PeaceActivist #90sMusic #LegendarySinger #Activism #CivilRights #ProtestSongs #WomenInMusic #AcousticMusic #FeministIcon #Counterculture #MusicLegends #SingerSongwriter #MusicRevolution #EmpoweringMusic #InspiringArtist #CivilRightsMovement #iconicvoices

Remembering Phillip Everly (January 19, 1939 – January 3, 2014) He was an American musician, who was one half of the duo The Everly Brothers alongside his older brother Don. The Everly Brothers were an American country rock duo, known for steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. Consisting of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly (February 1, 1937 – August 21, 2021) and Phillip "Phil" Everly (January 19, 1939 – January 3, 2014), the duo combined elements of rock and roll, country and pop, becoming pioneers of country rock. The duo was raised in a musical family, first appearing on radio singing along with their father Ike Everly and mother Margaret Everly as "The Everly Family" in the 1940s. When the brothers were still in high school, they gained the attention of prominent Nashville musicians like Chet Atkins, who began to promote them for national attention. They began writing and recording their own music in 1956, and their first hit song came in 1957, with "Bye Bye Love", written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. The song hit No. 1 in the spring of 1957, and additional hits would follow through 1958, many of them written by the Bryants, including "Wake Up Little Susie", "All I Have to Do Is Dream", and "Problems". In 1960, they signed with the major label Warner Bros. Records and recorded "Cathy's Clown", written by the brothers themselves, which was their biggest selling single. The brothers enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1961, and their output dropped off, though additional hit singles continued through 1962, with "That's Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be)" being their last top-10 hit.
