At over 150 years old this Besson Echo Cornet is an incredibly early example of Besson’s iconic design. Made in London with a Parisian valve section, it was built in a fundamental pitch of C but includes tuning bits for Bb as well. The original silver plating is intact, and the main bell features an embossed wreath and the King’s crest. The valves were copper-plated at some point and hold compression well with thicker oil like Berp 3. Echo cornets became more popular in the 1880s, designed with a fourth valve leading to a secondary bell — the “echo chamber” effect mimics playing from a distance and give the horn a sound reminiscent to a Harmon mute . We’ve cleaned and aligned the valves, and it’s in very good condition for a 150+ year old horn. This cornet also comes with the original case, original Bb tuning bit plus an extra, an antique cornet mouthpiece, and a Besson music lyre. Check out our store redirect in bio for more info.
