Whenever there is existing pigment in the skin from previous work, we need to assess whether the new color we're planning to implant will even show up once it’s fully healed. All pigments in the skin blend together—old and new mix, which means sometimes the new “cover-up” work can get absorbed by the old pigment. In these cases, the result is usually a slightly improved shape and overall color, but we might not see the new hair strokes as clearly. That said, with Nano hair strokes, I’ve noticed much better retention compared to Microblading, which is why I typically prefer that technique. If there’s more than 50% saturation from the old work, I would recommend a few sessions of laser or saline removal to lighten the color. This step will help the new hair strokes stand out and be more visible once healed. If removal isn’t an option for you, then you’ll need to accept that the new strokes won’t be as bold or defined as they would have been with the removal process. Feel free to schedule a consultation if you’d like my professional opinion on whether removal is needed or if we can work with the existing pigment for your new strokes. 💋💋
