I am a social entrepreneur. I’ve raised millions. I’ve spoken at the The White House. I’ve mentored countless founders and leaders. Yet, I wouldn’t even qualify for a supervisor position at some nonprofits. Why? Because I lack a specific degree. 🎓 Let’s talk about the top nonprofit management programs in America: •Harvard University •University of San Francisco •Indiana University Bloomington •The University of Georgia •Arizona State University •Case Western Reserve University •University of Notre Dame •New York University •University of Southern California •Texas A&M University These institutions are prestigious, but how accessible are they to Black individuals? Consider this: • Financial Barriers: The average tuition for these programs is over $50,000 per year. • Acceptance Rates: Many have acceptance rates below 40%, making entry highly competitive. • Representation: Black students are underrepresented in these institutions, limiting access to these degrees. The result? Qualified Black leaders are overlooked for executive roles due to degree requirements, despite their experience and impact. This perpetuates a cycle where nonprofits lack diverse leadership, affecting their ability to serve diverse communities effectively. It’s time to rethink these requirements. Let’s value lived experience, proven impact, and community connection over traditional credentials. Let’s remove the barriers that keep producing the same results. In Spite of It All, We’re Still Standing 🙌🏾 I’m beyond proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish despite every obstacle that tried to stop us. From #COVID19, an unproductive board of directors, lack of #funding, and even my #breastcancer journey. Yet, through it all, God made a way. 💅🏾 In just 5years, we provided behavioral health services to 70 at-risk #girls, raised funds for school supplies for 700 families in partnership with the MLK Center, and equipped underserved girls with winter coats through our second board’s efforts. My 20 years of nonprofit leadership prepared me with the skills to build impactful organizations, but these past 5 years as a founder? They’ve taught me what NOT to do to ensure sustainability. I’m honored to lay this foundation and position my #daughter for even greater impact. We’re not just building programs, we’re building legacies. 💜 #Community #NonprofitLeaders #FounderLife #FASTellGirl #Model2Mentor #NonprofitLeadership #BlackWomenInLeadership #BreakingBarriers #GenerationalImpact #leaders #nonprofit #nonprofitsoftiktok #nonprofitorganization #founder #FASTellGirl #Model2Mentor
