After my popularity of my last video, I got a comment mentioning Judy’s participation in bl*ckf*ce done at the studios at MGM. Let me give you a better ending to this. In 1963, years after Judy’s horrific but triumphant times at Metro Goldwyn Mayer after being signed onto a contract at 13 years old, the studios made very disgusting and disturbing choices with Garland, especially when she was a minor. Child Labor Laws were still not existent so that gave the studio free will to do whatever they please to Judy with zero consequences. Judy had zero creative control since at that time she participated in the act she wasn’t a house hold name yet. After Wizard of Oz, her career skyrocketed and she was making unimaginable amounts of money than before. Judy later in life discussed shame and regret that she was ever forced into a position in such a way. The people at MGM were always known to be wolves, but sure every studio in Old Hollywood had wolves, but Metro was notorious for being the most harmful one. In 1963, after it was finally being brought out to the public about inequality to people of color, Judy Garland did the correct thing and attended meetings, speeches, marches, anything you can imagine for equality an human rights. I understand that people are uncomfortable with Garland participating in such a hideous act, but behind the screen, it wasn’t Garland’s idea or wasn’t in her control on what she had the ability to do and not to do. Hollywood’s “Hollyweird” nickname has significance.
