During our 2nd Annual Florida Tiny House Festival back in 2017 John let one of the dogs from a rescue group that was participating in our event ride around with him in his golf cart all day… and amongst all the craziness of that 60K+ attendee festival, John and that little dog bonded… and the dog never left John’s side since.🥰 John gave him the name of Sergeant Gunny, and Gunny forever lived up to his name.👍👍🏽 He was the protector of our home, leader of our squad, and best friend of everyone in our LZ… he truly was a huge presence in our household and everyone wanted to be next to him. Our dogs, cats, chickens, goats and sheep all wanted to be Gunny’s friend and Gunny was always excited to be both their friend, big brother and sleeping buddy. Gunny was always excited to get in the truck for a ride, run an errand or go to the vet… he just loved getting into John’s truck, hitting the road and going on trips. 2 months ago we learned Gunny was experiencing heart failure and we were told he had less than 6 months left to be with us. 😢 # Everyone sensed something was up and wanted to hang out with him more than ever… it was both so emotionally touching and heart-breaking to witness just how much everyone loved Gunny. On Saturday, January 25th, Gunny took his final breath and went home. As I sit here typing while I am listening to John narrate this eulogy for Gunny, I can see all the tears in John’s eyes… it’s incredible how much of an impact Gunny has been in our lives and how much he has helped John with his PTSD… I witnessed John become an even better version of himself with Gunny in our life. Loosing a loved one is hard for everyone… I just never realized how much John loved Gunny until now and how much I did as well… and this is another one of Gunny’s character traits… he was able to transcend all barriers and differences with all our other rescues and John by his ability to love and protect them based on their individual needs. In closing, everyone knows I’m not a dog person… but damn I really loved Gunny… there was something amazingly special about John’s “Ol’ Dude”.🐕❤️🙏🙏🏽 #olddog #olddogs #dogsoftiktok #dogsofinstagram #dogs #mansbestfriend #missmydog
