This trip to Brazil was inspired by my little bro Kevin’s 50th Bday celebration. We had a time (birthday pics soon to come) but of course, I’ve made it magical by staying in my favorite Botafogo hotel with the most awesome roof top & pool. Seeing Rio de Janeiro from this side of town has made this trip unique from the rest & one I’ll never forget. Thank you Brazil for loving me so wonderfully for the last nearly 18 years, since April 2007. My husband Michael (then best friend) introduced me to Brazil and I fell in love with his favorite travel destination. That man enriched my life, upgraded me in so many ways that sustain me today. I remember us here, walking the streets, learning and loving together. It is that bond and love that I carry with me as I travel Rio de Janeiro. Going to new cities here is like I’m taking my husband with me so that We can experience them together as we had planned. Cancer did not win with us. Love won and continues to win with us. I want to sincerely apologize for my part in jokes that didn’t land as I had hoped. I now understand that for some, this can be triggering. I know the intentions of everyone involved - we only wanted to bring laughter and joy, adding to the vibrancy of this Ultimate World Cruise. What I’ve come to realize is that some hearts are so bruised by life’s traumas and deceptions that even the lightest laugh can feel like a burden. Yesterday, I learned that sarcasm and humor don’t always translate when someone’s spirit has been weighed down for too long. That realization hurt, but it also reminded me that sometimes, grace is quieter than humor, and kindness doesn’t need a punchline. We never know the weight someone else is carrying, so let’s tread lightly. When laughter doesn’t land, let empathy take its place. Be patient. Be gentle. Healing takes time, and love - freely given - can make the world a little lighter for someone who’s forgotten how to laugh.
