Listen, having a stock of food and water in your pantry or basement doesn’t mean you’re prepping for the end of the world. It means you’re prepping for unforeseen incidents your family might face. The Every day and seasonal kind. Or even the loss of a job or a spouse in poor health. It’s not living in fear or anxiety, it’s having wisdom to know that we’re not guaranteed a paycheck tomorrow, but we have food to preserve today. We’re not promised a thriving garden or even optimal weather, but we can help offset what might happen with things we’ll already use. And if we can save our leftovers for a hard night, it’s ready food on hand. So let me say without fear mongering… put back what you can, when you can, how you can with what you can… Because if it’s things you already use, it’s never a waste and you never know when it might come in handy. (Like this week when our sink flooded and we turned off the well and disconnected the sink so the only good drinking water came from our stored jars).
