When I started deconstructing, for a while I wanted nothing to do with anything remotely spiritual. I didn’t want to talk about any kind of divinity or spiritually-connected topics. I didn’t believe in any of it. ⠀ As time has gone on though, I’ve been able to recognize for myself that finding spiritual meaning and connection is important to me. ⠀ What’s been even more freeing is realizing that the Christian church couldn’t corner the market on accessing god. ⠀ Deconstructing is as individual a process as coming out is, but for me, I’ve found measures of healing in being able to connect to divinity outside of church walls without believing the strict tenants of the Christian faith. ⠀ I feel connected when I have a vulnerable conversation with a friend, I feel connected when I’m in nature observing all of its wildness, I feel connected in private moments listening to a moving song or reading something profound. I can even connect when others describe their faith. ⠀ I share all of this to acknowledge to anyone wanting to connect to divinity outside of mainstream faith that IS possible. ⠀ #religiousdeconstruction #religioustrauma #pastoralcounselor #divinity #therapy #counseling #comingout
