we lost power for over a week after the hurricane, may have even been two or it just felt like it. Time slowed down somehow. It was hot and humid and everyone opened up their doors and windows. They let all the old air out of their homes and they came
#outside. At first there were polite hellos and nods but people kept to themselves in their little patios. Then people started introducing themselves to each other, every day after work or after kids went to bed people were talking outside, laughing out loud in public and dancing. We were dancing!! People played instruments and sang! We were getting used to community activity outside, it felt like home to me, finally. We were having so much peaceful fun that when the zzzzap of electricity finally jolted through the apartment complex, we all gasped and jumped collectively. I watched from my patio as everyone but me marched back inside and closed up their doors and windows again. I stayed out there waiting to see if once people tended to things they might step outside and meet each other at the same time once the kids went to bed? I watched in the evenings for 3 days but every door stayed shut. I never forgot how easily everyone began helping each other. The way they knew they were all in the same situation and that only the people can really help the people so they just got to it. I fucking love humans 🥰❤️🔥
