The Federal Trade Commission is issuing a warning to the Public about possible scammers. There has been an uptick in scammers pretending to be a tolling agencies. In a public release they are people from all over the US are at risk for falling for an unpaid toll phishing scam. What is happening is people are receiving a text message saying they have unpaid tolls that need to be paid immediately. The text might even show that you owe a certain dollar amount and give you a link to pay your tolls. But this link will take you to a page where they want you to enter your bank account or credit card info and this is a phishing scam to get your identity. If you get a suspicious text like this DO NOT click on the link or even respond to the text message. Scammers are looking for you to reply quickly because you are scared. Reach out to your state’s tolling agency to see if this text message is a legitimate message by calling them or going through their official website. Lastly if you find out it is a scam messsage report it as scam.
