The Power of Masking Pt. 9 🎨⬇️ Masking is an editing technique that allows you to make adjustments to specific areas of an image without affecting the rest. By doing this, you’re giving yourself more control over your post processing — allowing for better edits overall. For this shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, I used a series of radial filters to shift the warm sunset light towards the bottom left of the image while darkening the opposite side. This added a lot more depth and dimension to the shot. To keep it looking realistic (even with admittedly heavy masking), I made sure the light source aligned with where the light was actually coming from when I took the shot. I then used linear gradients to shape the overall composition, pulling focus toward the middle and lower left. Lastly, I used the brush took to paint on contrast and clarity to the bridge road to help it pop. Here’s how you can use these tools to level up your edits: Radial Filters: Build natural-looking light effects and add depth. Linear Gradients: Guide focus and balance your image. Brush Tool: Target specific areas for more precise adjustments like clarity and contrast.
