She had been left for dead—bleeding from a massive, gaping wound on her side. Battered, bruised, and drenched in her own blood, she was barely hanging on. As soon as we heard of her, we wasted no time racing to her side. We had no idea how long she'd been there, and we knew that every second counted if we were going to save her life. As soon as we had Faith in our arms, we rushed her to the animal hospital. Faith was immediately placed on a stretcher and wheeled in for emergency surgery. The surgeon discovered the unimaginable—Faith’s wound was so severe that all the skin around it had to be removed. She may even need skin grafts as her recovery continues. On top of that, she had a fractured leg, and her tail was so damaged that it had to be amputated. It’s unfathomable that so many people passed her by, watching her lie there, helpless and dying, without lifting a finger to help. As Christmas draws near, we are hoping for a miracle. Faith's condition is still extremely fragile, but everything she does tells us she wants to keep fighting. We're determined to give Faith the gift of a second chance this holiday season, but we can't do it without your help. Plum didn’t get her holiday wish this year. A lot of her friends found homes for the holidays, and she’s feeling a bit left out. 😔 We can only imagine what this poor girl has been through 🥺 3-year-old Plum was brought to our shelter from a rural area and had clearly been mistreated 😔She arrived to us unspayed, heartworm positive and, shockingly, a bullet was found in her leg 💔 We have no words for this, except she can now look forward to a better life 🙏  Our clinic was able to perform surgery to remove the bullet and care for her during her recovery ❤️‍🩹 Now she needs a loving home with lots of TLC ❤️  Plum is a sweet girl, who loves to play with people and run in our yard. Replying to @tracysmit84 We have an #update on Homer! While in the care of his former owner, sweet pup #Homer was brutally attacked by several other dogs. The violence left him with critical injuries, but instead of getting Homer the care he needed, Homer's owner ignored him. This sweet boy was relegated to the yard and left to rot in excruciating pain for over a week. Out of desperation, Homer tried to CHEW OFF HIS OWN LEG in order to end the agony it was causing. Local law enforcement does little to actually enforce the few animal welfare laws in this area, leaving rescuers on their own to help animals like Homer. Thankfully, rescuers were able to convince Homer's owner to surrender this poor dog into their care. As soon as they had him, they rushed him to the hospital for help. Since being hospitalized, Homer's doctors tried what they could to save his mangled limb. However, the damage was so extensive that the only treatment that would guarantee Homer a pain-free future was amputation. Homer underwent surgery to remove his mutilated leg and has been recovering ever since. Had he not been neglected for so long by his former owner, it is possible his leg could have been saved. Homer will need a month of recovery from his amputation before undergoing a second surgery to repair damage to his femur and hip. He will then need 6-8 weeks to heal from that operation. This sweet boy still has a very long road ahead of him. We need your help to ensure his care can continue and his rescue has all the resources they need to help him heal.
