This is one of the most common questions we hear from beginners that come in to train with us or from our viewers online, and 80% of the time when we fix their plant and takeoff, they can suddenly get back way better. This isn’t to say there is no work to do through the swing and the top end, but fixing the plant fixes a lot of athletes’ problems. This is because if you start out in a bad position when you start to swing, you are mechanically disadvantaged from being able to actually swing properly. Here are a few things to look for in your vault that will help you swing back better and get “inverted” • Do you start to plant the pole 3 steps out (second to last left for a righty)? • Is your pole tip low enough when you start to plant on those 3 steps out (not above your head)? • Is your posture upright and aggressive, or are you leaning back your last 3 strides? • Are your hands all the way up going into takeoff? • Are you heal striking on that last step? • Is your step relatively close to being on (directly under your top hand)? • Are you jumping up well, or super flare at takeoff? • Does your bottom arm up above your head? • Is your chest in front of your hips? These are the basic questions that must be answered before focusing heavily on the top end of your vault. If you do all of these right and are still struggling, then send us a dm.
