MEDIA RELEASE.  From the Newton county sheriff’s office.  On January 7, 2025 at approximately 4:24PM, Newton County Deputies were dispatched to 7547 Dover Lane in regards to a possible burglary. Upon arrival, deputies determined that the potential suspect may still be in the area of the burglary because the owner had heard a gunshot in the area. Deputies conducted a search of the property and located the suspect in an abandoned residence located on the property. The suspect was determined to be Nicholas Cutbirth and he was taken into custody without incident. During a search of the suspect, several firearms were located on the suspect as well as a bulletproof vest that the suspect was wearing. He was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Mr. Cutbirth was arrested and transported to the Newton County Jail for felony unlawful possession of a firearm, felony stealing of a firearm, and felony possession of a controlled substance. He also was arrested on a felony warrant for burglary out of Jasper County. Neosho Police Department assisted deputies on scene with the use of their drone. Charges have been submitted to the Newton County Prosecutor's Office for review. The investigation continues.
