This means for every resident of the LP counties, there are 11,134 in the MP counties. We then see the 100 most and 100 least, the ratio isn’t necessarily as intense, but it subtly shows the #GreatPlains rain shadow caused by the #RockyMountains, where the plains are too dry for most types of #agriculture and the local economy ends up dependent on ranching (if anything at all). #Texas is the only state to have counties in the top AND bottom 10, namely #HarrisCounty (#Harris is home to #Houston), and #DallasCounty (#Dallas) are in the top 10, while #Loving, #Kenedy, and #King all have <1,000 residents. #Nebraska has 6 of the smallest, while #Montana has one (#Petroleum), #Alaska has one (#Yakutat), and #Hawaii has one (#Kalawao). For example, #RhodeIsland has 1.2m residents, and gets two #congressional #districts, meaning RI gets two members of the #HouseofRepresentatives, as well as four total #electors to the #electoralcollege (four because each state gets two for two senators, +X, X being the number of house reps). This map shows the #populationdensity of each district, highlighting the population concentration in #US urban areas. #NYC itself has 14 districts, #SoCal gets ~40, #NorCal has ~10, and #Chicago gets ~10, while entire states, like #Vermont, #Wyoming, and #Delaware, only get 1 district covering their whole state.
