A railroaders work is never done, though the holidays have already begun, there’s people and toys and food to move. To spread love and cheer this time of year. From near and far and all around on this night two glorious sounds. One of sleigh bells and an elf jolly and fat, 8 reighndeer and a pack of toys on his back. The other is the whistle and clicker clack of steel wheels on steel track. Both making headway before the dawn. Each making stops, delivering goods and cheer. Their paths crossing only this night each year. For each their trade is noble bold and old. Hand in hand these traditions hold the spirit and magic of this night. Under twinkle of bethlehem’s star burning so bright. The engineer keeps his careful watch for the glow of the light ahead. All signals green, only Rudolph’s nose is red. Both receive a thankful well done at the end of each’s run. Home to there families the crews they break, for the next it’s their turn to take. From each division and each road on the trains continue to go. The jolly old elf high in the sky looks down with a smile as the whistling train rolls merrily by. The conductor peaks out the caboose with a nod of his cap and wave of his light. Up to St. Nick bidding a peaceful goodbye. Both now Dashing and far out of sight exclaiming in their merry way Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night! -W.G.
