A few days ago our friends had to make the gut wrenching decision to surrender this sweet boy. They discovered some of the kiddos were severely allergic (and had to be in the ER) to him. I offered to watch him because I knew he had been rehomed many times (at least 5 different homes and he’s only 2) and had been in some bad environments so I wanted to preserve his sweetness. The minute I met him I loved him. I wanted to be his foster until he found a home but was denied the chance. His first time at the shelter was awful (not their fault) and by contract he had to go back to the same shelter. Then either go to a foster or to yet another home. I had 24 hours to find a way so I scraped, advocated, scavenged and fought for him to be ours. Today I got to sign the papers. I did sign myself up for absolute chaos with three big dogs, a kid, two jobs and life but I couldn’t let him get away. I am in love, in awe, in shock, and probably on beans and rice for a bit but we did it!! For anyone wondering, we got the adoption fee waived ($400), got him on a basic vet plan for now (he’s up to date on everything for the year), insurance just in case, and we are splitting food cost with friend for now. I can be creative with treats, toys and training/stimulation. My 8 year old lab taught me all the tricks. Space wise I have to find how to fit them all together somewhere, but that’s the smallest problems for now. I have to double up on poop pickups 🤢
