Every night around 8pm, I head up the stairs to go get a hot bath. “Ewwwwww!! You are sitting in your filth”, is what I have heard a thousand times from people when I tell them I love to take baths. A warm bath isn’t just relaxing for your muscles after a long day—it can also work wonders for your mental health. Research suggests that soaking in a hot bath can boost your mood in a way similar to physical exercise. When you immerse yourself in warm water, it activates your parasympathetic nervous system, the part of your body responsible for promoting relaxation. This process helps reduce stress levels as your body adjusts to the soothing heat. In fact, a bath can physically shift how your body responds to anxiousness, helping you feel calmer and more at ease. One study found that taking a bath just twice a week in the afternoon can lead to a noticeable and lasting improvement in mood, even reducing symptoms of sad feelings. Warm baths also elevate your core body temperature, which helps regulate your circadian rhythm—a key factor in getting quality sleep. Taking a bath about an hour before bed can prepare your body and mind for better rest. Additionally, warm water increases serotonin production, the “feel-good” chemical in your brain, further enhancing your mood and encouraging emotional healing. So, if you’re feeling down or overwhelmed, consider skipping the quick shower and opting for a relaxing warm bath in the evening instead. It’s a simple way to give your mind and body the care they need. Drop "bath" in the comments if you are a bath girl👇 #bathorshower #benefitsofabath #bathtime #fightorflight #relaxingbath #bathfilth #cortisolcontrol #relaxingtime #wreckednervoussystem

Part of my routine in the evening is taking a 30 minute bath before bed. I read last month how much it helps you relax. Sitting there last night, I began remembering how my feet would have these awful pins-and-needles sensations throughout the day, and when I got into the hot bath water, the numbness was more noticeable. During the most stressful season of my life, I even experienced it in my arms and hands too. I went to the doctors and he ran all the tests—bloodwork, a heart monitor, even an ultrasound on my arms and hands. Everything came back “normal.” Turns out, my body was stuck in fight-or-flight. Chronic stress had completely overwhelmed my nervous system, causing those strange sensations. When we’re stressed, nerves can misfire, and shallow breathing can make it worse by disrupting oxygen levels in the blood. Even something like a hot bath can make tingling more noticeable by stimulating nerve endings and increasing blood flow. I started working on reducing stress and calming my nervous system. Things didn’t shift overnight, but little by little, I began feeling like me again. And sitting in the bath last night I couldn’t remember the last time my feet tingled. If the pins and needles persist or worsen, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional to rule out other possible causes, such as nerve damage, diabetes, or circulation problems. But if stress is the culprit, don’t hesitate. Start your journey to reduce stress and keep your body in a calming state. Drop the word “supplements” in the comments and I will share what I use to target stress, anxiousness and tension keeping my cortisol balanced and my nervous system supported. Take a deep breath—you’ve got this. ❤️ #ChronicStress #FightorFlight #PinsAndNeedles #heartmonitor #cardiologist #anxiousheart #monitoringmyheart #heartmonitorcheck #anxiousnessbegone ##bathorshower #benefitsofabath #bathtime #relaxingbath #bathfilth #relaxingtime
