We truly can't believe Mongoose made it as long as he did there. He was shot at (we found a BB and pellet in his chest and neck area). He was hit by a car (most likely on purpose). The kind actions of the trapper there saved his life.  She saw him struggle to eat and brought him wet food, especially for him. She found him in the nearby woods after someone saw him being hit by a car. She took him to the ER for help. Thank you Dottie for saving him! Mongoose was transferred to the county shelter,  and we were able to get him. They  had his teeth removed (many were broken and/or missing already). The clinic where his dental was done also noted that he has stenotic nares (narrow nostril openings). Dr Nancy came to our Cocoa location a few days ago and gave him a thorough exam. Here's what she found: *Stenotic nares- he can breathe through them so no surgery needed *Stenotic ear canals-very narrow from untreated ear infections, will need his ears cleaned sometimes (flat ears) *Inflammation still remains in mouth * Cellulitis-burn or bite under the skin that has become infected (he's on antibiotics for treatment) *Paint in his fur (unknown origin) *Pellet in his chest (we found a BB as well) Mongoose is so lucky to have gotten out of there. Although his ears will always remain flattened like that, his overall recovery prognosis is good. We expect that he'll be ready for adoption after we get his wound healed from the cellulitis. Mongoose is also FIV positive.  That means he has a weakened immune system.  He can still live a long,  healthy life just like nonFIV cats. After 168 days in foster care... Nectar finally has a chance at a new home! Her potential new adopter is driving two hours to meet her! Paws crossed...Nectar is so deserving of a chance at a fresh start and a home full of so much love! Nectar was left in an apartment for over a week in February of last year. She ended up at the shelter in the unadoptable area, as she was acting out in fear. We rescued her, and she hid under her blankies for quite some time after her rescue. She got braver and then got adopted in May.  She was returned in August as it wasn't the best fit for her. 🎶Okay, Okay, Okay I'm 'bout to have a good day!🎶 Sitting in my foster mom's lap, getting head scritchins, playing with my spring, snuggling in my cat bed, breakfast and dinner, what could be better?! Geez...only thing I'm missing is a family of my own. Maybe today will be the best day...and someone will decide to adopt me! XOXO, Rocky Cocoa, Florida Rocky is about 3 years old, up to date on shots,  FIV positive, FELV negative, neutered and microchipped. FIV kitties can live with NONFIV kitties, and can live long normal lives. Rocky was rescued back in April of 2023 with a severe case of scabies.  He had been seen around the apartment complex for a long time prior to becoming sick,  and was most likely someone's pet left behind 😞 He became lethargic and anemic.
