Retro Rewind TV: Attention, GenX Men! 🤷🏻♂️I periodically see these sorts of videos pop up and, as a GenX guy, they confuse me. You see, GenXers in general (and the men in specific) are the most resilient people around...at least now that the Greatest Gen and Silent Gen have mostly left us. We're the last bastion of solidly built people. 💪😎GenX isn't the group anyone should be worrying about. For the most part we work, we consume pop culture (and alcohol), and we listen to 80s music. We've held up physically better than those before or after us...yes, mentally we're a little skewed. Retro Rewind TV: Why the punctuation hate? This statement is going to be the most "old man" thing I've probably ever said - what is up with the younger generations and their hatred of punctuation? I'm hearing they hate the ellipsis, and that putting a period at the end of a message is considered passive aggressive. It's easily the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard...and I was told that hiding under my desk during a nuclear attack was effective and that Quisp and Quake were two different cereals, so I've heard some ridiculous things in my time. I get that "texting talk" is a thing now, but it seems silly to be looking for offense in proper punctuation when there are so many more important things to be offended by: like people thinking Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You" is better than Dolly Parton's. (Yes, the auto captions screwed me on this one - I said fateful and the captions weren’t having it!) 🤷🏻♂️This question comes up a lot, and the answer is very simple. We've had to buy and rebuy all of our media and pop culture multiple times over the years, in a variety of different formats. Not only did we replace our music over and over (records, cassette tapes, CDs, MP3s), but we had to replace our movies (VHS, Laser Disk, DVD, Blue-Ray, Streaming) and our books (hard copy, PDF, Kindle)! 😡It's no wonder we're pissed!! None of you younger generations will understand the challenge of going from zero tech to where we are today - we are the only group that made the transition. Sure, Millennials caught the tail end, but they weren't there for the beginning as actual buyers. We were. 🤣And, the sad thing is: if there's yet another change, GenX will be there to do it all again. It's no wonder we are the generation that currently powers the economy, in spite of being the smallest of all the gens. Retro Rewind TV: How To Cook Like An 80s Kid! 70s and 80s kids were truly a different breed. We weren't like the boomers that had their moms at home to make food, or the millennials who had theirs. If you grew up in the 70s or 80s, especially as a GenX kid, then you were left to your own devices most of the time and, more than likely, had to make your own food. Unfortunately, some of those food choices weren't the greatest. However, I can just about guarantee that every single 80s kid out there made themselves a meal out of crackers and margarine (butter if you were bougie). Saltines and Imperial.
