Back in November, I was being interviewed at a bookish event, where I was asked what celebrity I would cast for Zaid Ansara should “Written by a Woman” ever be turned into a movie. I hadn’t thought about it, because I picture my characters so clearly in my head, it almost feels impossible to stick a celebrity’s face to them. At that moment, I panicked and said Henry Cavil for no reason other than his body type and nerdy personality. But I have been kicking myself ever since because, what? A white guy for Zaid? No. Absolutely not. Needless to say, I am ass at coming up with good answers to questions like this on the spot. So, this post is me putting real thought and intention behind who I would cast for “Written by a Woman.” These are actors that I think would both pull off both the look of the characters in my head (I mean, picture Marwan with glasses and a polo shirt and a computer in front of him. He’s perfect) and their personalities (ie. Midori, who is not Chinese, but would encompass Mary’s personality flawlessly). And, because I am drafting Taylor’s novella titled, “Tailored for Them”, here is who I would cast to play the sporty, sexy enby we all have loved since the beginning of the “What It Means” series. How did I do? Did this ruin how you pictured these characters in your mind? Or do you agree?
