⚜️ Part 2 of my Hope Diamond series: Lost & Found πŸ’Ž How did the Hope Diamond vanish during the French Revolution? πŸ‡«πŸ‡· During the chaos of 1792, the French Crown Jewels, including the diamond, were looted from the Garde Meuble. The building where the Garde-Meuble was located is now part of the HΓ΄tel de la Marine in Paris. While 17 men were sentenced to death in connection with the theft, the French Blue was never recovered. The French Blue disappeared for 20 years before reappearing in London, now recut and reduced by 24 carats to weigh 45 carats. The hasty recut was likely meant to disguise its origins. To this day, the second stone resulting from the recut remains unaccounted for. Some believe the diamond was owned by British King George IV, but official royal records offer no proof for this account. What we do know is that the Hope family acquired it, keeping it for over 60 years, and giving it the famous name: the Hope Diamond. 🎬 Stay tuned for Part 3: The Curse. #hopediamond #frenchblue #louisxv #louisxvi #marieantoinette #georgeiv #famousdiamonds #frenchrevolution #jewelryhistory #royaljewels #royalhistory #highjewelery #luxuryjewelry #jewelryaddiction #jewelryaddict #jewelryinfluencer
