Kinda funny that on a video I made about a date mansplaning why wolves were bad, my comments are full of men trying to mansplain lies about wolves to me (I’m a naturalist and it is my job to educate you about this). You either sit in ignorance with your harmful views both impacting yourself and every living thing around you, or you do the bare minimum and research this topic. It’s your choice. I am a naturalist with a background in restoration ecology. My thesis is about the media’s impact on the public opinion of the wolf and how it affects our human health. I work as an educator and have assisted research on overgrazing in Rocky Mountain National Park, lived in Yellowstone National Park and Southeast Alaska, and have helped famous wolf biologists with their field notes. For the ranchers: Less than 1% of livestock deaths are caused by wolves, and here in the state of CO, CPW reimburses ranchers if they lose livestock to a wolf. They funded this through the CO Born to be Wild license plate, which has raised over $631,000 for CPW. They not only reimburse what the rancher would’ve made on the livestock killed, but provide LGDs, cameras, and fencing for ranchers. By reducing the overpopulation of elk, you have more grazing ground for your livestock. For those concerned about danger: there have only been 2 wild wolf-caused fatalities in the US in the 21st century. Wolves are docile animals and avoid humans at all costs, they are not habituated like brown or black bears. Don’t approach them if they’ve got pups, and you’re good. For hunters: you won’t have any negative impacts! Wolves target the sickest and weakest members of the elk herd and improve the overall strength and health of elk herds. I have sources for every single one of those. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. #naturalist #ecology #colorado #wolf #wolves #savethewolves
