Just because they are our ānaturalā oils, doesnāt mean they should be left on our scalp. Removing oil, dirt and buildup is absolutely crucial for the health of our scalp, and as a result, the health of our hair. And that is exactly why shampoo was created in the first place! If oil isnāt being effectively removed after shampooing, your shampoo isnāt doing its job. Whether it contains sulfates or notā¦ If your scalp feels āstrippedā and dry after using a shampoo, that is a totally valid reason to look for a different option that better fits the needs of your scalp. But just seeing āsulfateā on the ingredients label isnāt enough to predict if a shampoo will do that to you or not. Other ingredients can be added (like gentler secondary cleansers + conditioning agents) to offset that potential āstrippingā effect. Conditioner also helps with this on our lengths and ends. The best thing to do is not stress about ingredients that social media has taught us to fear (like sulfates), and instead just evaluate your shampoo based on how it makes your scalp and hair feel. If your scalp and hair feel cleanā¦ thatās perfect. Thatās what shampoo is supposed to do!
