NEW patient alert! “Luna Diane”. 🐢🦀 Luna Diane, a large Loggerhead sea turtle, was spotted by a recreational boater late Sunday, who contacted the US Coast Guard Key West Sector. The Coast Guard rescued the turtle on the water, and our team met them at the dock with the Turtle Hospital ambulance. 🚑 She’s covered in barnacles, and a crab can even be seen exiting and entering the wound in her shell where a boat had hit her. 💔 Luna Diane has a long road of recovery ahead. “Jesus” is going to be released from Sombrero Beach Marathon, Florida on Sunday. ❤️🩹🐢 Jesus was found struggling at the surface with a heavy load of Fibropapillomatosis tumors off of Key West in May of last year. Jesus was rescued and taken to The Turtle Hospital for treatment. Treatment included tumor removal surgeries, wound care, antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins. 🚑 Jesus was strong and is now healthy and ready to return to sea! Turkey is one of the juvenile Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles that transferred from New England back in December. ❄️ Last night, Turkey received a lung wash with Dr. Mike Dunn. He was cold-stunned and is now being treated for severe fungal pneumonia and osteomyelitis. It is with heavy hearts that we report, Benson a Loggerhead Sea Turtle in rehabilitation at The Turtle Hospital has passed away. Benson had barnacles removed so the veterinarian team could do a diagnostic endoscope. The scope confirmed Benson had internal FP tumors.
