Storm’s seizures have been averaging every 3-4 weeks since July. I think the longest gap we’ve made is 5 weeks in maybe November? I can’t remember. But starting today we are on high alert. Looking for things like: • increased energy • increased appetite • insatiable thirst We’ve found that these are truly his only “tells” and they’re hard to differentiate from his every day behaviors at times. Sometimes he has hungry spells. It’s winter so it’s dry; this can increase thirst. Some nights we sleep poorly, so he has more energy during the day. It’s so hard to tell. I hate the new medication, Telmisartan. It makes him so much more wobbly and unsteady. It makes him nauseous yet he’s overweight, so it’s hard to find the line between getting him to eat but not eat too much. But the Telmisartan is supposed to increase the effectiveness of the anticonvulsants. And while we can live with the 3-4 week pattern, it’s not good for his brain health. So here we are: forever stuck between a rock and a hard place. Our other video is still going viral on a slow burn level, so every morning I wake up to a plethora of new comments. Today I got one that said he might be better off being put-down. The comment is definitely tone-deaf and insensitive, but it’s nonetheless something we have to check ourselves on every time he has a seizure. “What is his quality of life?” / “what is our quality of life?” It’s a hard thing to talk about. And unfortunately it will ultimately be my - mom’s- decision at some point. (and that’s an entirely different conversation) But for now, the big guy is still happy every day despite the challenges of each day. So, that’s where we are at. ♥️ Hoping for the best this weekend but anticipating the worst. The seizure is coming; it’s just a matter of when. It’s safe to say I don’t have much faith in the Telmisartan. #seizuredog #dogswithseizures #hydrocephalus #malamute #whitemalamute #joy #fyp #foryoupage #dogsoftiktok #weratedogs #goodboy #fluffydog
