Sensory issues affect so many things in my life, not just eating. 🥣 🛀🪥👗 We have 5 senses, sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. Some people and more sensitive to certain ones more than others. I struggle with most of them, but sound doesn’t really bother me. For people who aren’t sensory sensitive, they may have a very hard time understanding what life looks like for those of us who are. Hygeine is something many people with sensory issues struggle with. A big reason for me is my struggle with the way water feels on my skin. The best way that I can explain it is that it hurts and it feels like a million needles are poking me. I also don’t like anything touching my scalp. When something touches my scalp it feels like I can feel the pain through out my entire body. Baths and showers have always been really hard for me. It is getting a little bit easier because just like anything else the more you do the more used to it you get. I used to try an avoid it as much as I could but my mom always explained the importance of hygiene. Just like my mom tries to be creative with the foods I try, she also tries to find creative ways to make showers more enjoyable. Some of the things that have helped me is a waterproof speaker so that in can listen to music in the shower. Brushing my hair is also really hard and something I really struggle with. This is why my hair is always in a braid because it helps to prevent tangles and it keeps the hair out of my face and away from my neck. Distractions are always very helpful whenever you’re uncomfortable. Trying to focus on things other than what you’re doing in that moment can be really helpful. #hair #brush #skin #shower #sensory #avoid #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #autism #adhd #neurodivergent #routine #kids #parents #relatable #sensitive #hairbrush #product #scalp #skincare #health #senses #touch #taste #smell #sound #sight #MentalHealth #desensitization

A sensory trigger is any unpleasant sensory input that causes that person a significa negative physical or emotional reaction. Everyone has sensory triggers but autistic people tend to have more if them and our reactions tend to be more intense. #autistic #autism #autistictiktok #autismawareness #autismacceptance #sensory #sensoryissues #sensoryprocessingdisorder #neurodivergent
