TLDR, Glaurung was created by Morgoth during the First Age as seen in the Silmarillion, and is a major antagonist in his own right. A lot of illustrations tend to portray him as being particularly heavyset, but I’ve always thought it fun to model him after a rattlesnake, especially given their muscular coils. That thinking also went into his face, where it blended with a bit of bulldog to reference the amount of breeding that went into making him. *In an early version of the legendarium, which is found in HoME, Eönwe is Manwë’s son, with Ilmarë. However in the Silm their titles are changed to herald and handmaiden of Manwë and Varda instead, since Tolkien decided they couldn’t have children.
