How to hook slide You will utilize the hook slide if the defender is trying to tag you - not if it’s a force. You can incorporate the hook slide if the defender is on the opposite side of the bag to receive the ball or if they are up the line to receive a ball and you need to get around them. When I would use the hook slide the most would be at home but can also be done at 2nd or 3rd. If it’s at home, this slide will be a couple feet off the plate and you can slide later than normal because you’re able to keep on going past the plate. If at 2nd or 3rd, you’ll still be a couple feet off the bag but will need to start the slide around the same time so you don’t go off the bag. In this video I am the catcher pretending to move up the line to catch the ball.
