The NEW DJI RS4 Mini Gimbal 🎥 This is the new RS 4 Mini Gimbal by DJI and there’s a lot to be excited about. Auto-axis lock, native vertical shooting, dedicated mode dials, a ‘flat’ folding design, a pretty sick new color, and a new RS Intelligent Tracking module that will be a real game-changer for some solo creators. Full disclosure, @DJI Official sent this out for me to try out and review, but as always, these are my complete honest opinions. That said, this is not a FULL review, but I have been using the camera gimbal for some time now, and it’s exactly as you’d expect if you have ever used DJI gimbals in the past. If you know how to properly walk with (and handle) a 3-axis stabilizer, you can get incredibly smooth footage with this little guy. The Size: I mention this gimbal is a bit larger than the RS3 mini - that is true, but it’s not by a lot. It’s still a heck of a lot smaller / more compact than the RS4 / RS4 Pro, and like I mentioned, it’s mainly to accommodate a totally ‘flat’ folding design, even at full extension. The tripod base is also longer, but it does make the gimbal more stable when set down and when balancing heavier setups. The longer tripod can also make it easier to grip, though, it is an all plastic build, versus the rubberized texture on the outgoing mini. Another small feature I appreciate is that the joystick is a bit further from the screen now, which helps to limit the number of times I accidentally initiate an on-screen menu item with my thumb. THE question: if you have an RS3 Mini already, should you upgrade to the RS4 Mini? My short answer is, ‘No’. That said, if you believe the new tracking feature can change the game for you, then by all means, go for it. Sirui Anamorphic Prime (with AF) 🎥 This is the Sirui 40mm T1.8 APSC anamorphic lens - and it has autofocus. I decided to go with the neutral flare option. For now, this is just an asmr unboxing, but I’m super excited to start shooting with this. Since it does have autofocus, I’m most excited to use this on a gimbal. It should also lend itself to stills pretty well! Although this is designed for S35 sensors, I’ve found that it covers the entire frame on my 16x9 full frame cameras (a7iv, a7c, etc) 🤔…kind of interesting - gotta check this out further! Initial impression is that the build quality is excellent. It’s a near full-metal build (including the focus and aperture rings). The aperture ring is also de-clickable and very smooth. That said, I can’t comment on the autofocus performance just yet (I need to test it a lot more) but I can say it is quite loud! I barely have to charge this gear 🔋 Having to charge every last piece of camera gear before a shoot can be time consuming - and if you forget to charge a piece of equipment, the entire shoot can be ruined. I love that so many modern mics, including the @DJI Official Mic Mini, come with a charging case. The case is great for travel, but the extended battery life and fast charging are excellent features and can save the day in the event you forgot to charge up the night before. Don’t Clip Your Audio (NOT 32-bit float) This is one of my favorite features of the @DJI Official Mic Mini, and in my opinion, helps make up for the lack of 32-bit float recording. I’ve put this feature to the test over the last few weeks and it’s pretty incredible how well it works. In fact, I set my Sony camera internal gain to 1 DB, and that mic mini does the rest! In my opinion, it makes these mics completely valid for use in unpredictable / uncontrollable run & gun situations.
