Replying to @šŸ¤•That GuyšŸ¤• Iā€¦ did not. But I did pick it back up recently! The multi-talented @stephanie_lekkos ā€˜s post yesterday with her duduk reminded me why I bought a soprano sax a couple years agoā€¦ I was so taken with the ā€œduduk-likeā€ sound I could get out of my cheap mini-sax by using a 1.0 reed and doing vibrato on the reed itselfā€¦ That I thought I might apply the same approach to a soprano saxophone. Well it turned into a very humbling experience! Soprano saxophone is extremely pitch sensitive and in general a worthy challenge, one I set aside for months. Iā€™ve recently picked it back up for a few minutes each day, and hereā€™s something interestingā€¦ my main problem before was extremely easy to fix. My lower lip was in the wrong place, but you donā€™t know what you donā€™t know. Making that slight adjustment opened the instrument up to me, and while Iā€™m still a beginner, it let me overcome the threshold of ā€œmake a noise consistentlyā€. When I have these personal epiphanies, I try not to let them go to wasteā€¦ ā€œwhat else is on the other side of a small fix?ā€ I find myself asking myself that in most areas of life lately, and the answer is, a lot! A little attention and elbow grease can go a long way in improving your quality of life. So, anyways, Stephanie posted her wonderful duduk playing and it reminded me of my own duduk-pursuits. So this morning, in my chilly basement (-10f outside and I still havenā€™t fixed my heating), I recorded my dudukesque tribute. #sopranosa#sopranosaxe #duduk
