We’re also all too broke to move. It’s fun to imagine tho, right? 😅 On a real note, this fight is not just ours. It’s old as time itself. There will always be weak & insecure men seeking power by oppression and weak women made to feel secure by their alignment with that oppression. What we’ve seen in the last 24 hrs is nothing we haven’t been yelling from the rooftops for years. We knew this would happen. The difference is it’s actually here. It’s so damn disappointing and rightfully scary for so many of us. As we move forward (the only option we have), I hope we take a long hard look at the past so we don’t continue to repeat it in the future. I hope we listen to the people of color in this country. They are the “canary in the coal mine” so to speak. What they notice - we’ll eventually see as well. It’ll just likely be too late if we aren’t listening to their warnings from the start and taking action alongside them. I also hope we’re able to see through the abusive and manipulative tactics we’re already facing on day 1. As a person dedicated to change, I’m not going to get it right all the time. I’m not going to be perfect. Neither are you. Accept that. Perfection doesn’t exist and keeps us from showing up. You don’t have to be perfect to make a difference in this world or in your local communities. You just have to show up and be willing to listen. I’m asking us all to do that. SHOW UP. Show up in whatever way makes sense for you but do it! I’m often told how “brave” I am for speaking up on a business page. Truthfully, I don’t feel very brave at all and am not sure if I agree BUT if that’s what this is then be brave, y’all! Show up and be brave. I love you all so dearly that it hurts. We deserve better than is. If we can’t get it from our government, we’ll give it to each other. Kin & Cottage remains a safe space along with so many other spaces in this community dedicated to celebrating diversity & inclusion. We’re not going anywhere.
