Here’s a breakdown of all 12 nerves and some tricks to help you remember them without frying your brain: 1️⃣ Olfactory (I): Smell! "Oculo" = eye, "motor" = movement. 4️⃣ Trochlear (IV): Eye moves down/in. "Track" it like it’s following a path. 5️⃣ Trigeminal (V): Facial sensation + chewing. Makes you smile, literally! 8️⃣ Vestibulocochlear (VIII): Balance & hearing. "Vestibulo" = balance, "cochlear" = hear. 9️⃣ Glossopharyngeal (IX): Taste (back 1/3 of tongue) & swallowing. "Glosso" = tongue, "pharyngeal" = throat. 🔟 Vagus (X): Heart, digestion, breathing—it’s the Vegas nerve, always running the show! 1️⃣1️⃣ Accessory (XI): Shoulder shrugs & head turns. Like an accessory, it gives extra movement. 1️⃣2️⃣ Hypoglossal (XII): Tongue motor for speaking/swallowing. "Hypo" = below, "glossal" = tongue.
