🚨 Here are the requirements for me to do your child’s hair 😂🤣: 1) Make sure you detangle their hair before they come in the salon. A lot of crying depresses me and triggers me. 2) They have to respect you first because if they don’t they’ll think they can disrespect me and I AIN’T HAVING IT! 3) They must be old enough to handle the salon experience. Train your child at home on what it’s like getting their hair done so they won’t be traumatized when they get to the salon. I’ve laid some of ya’ll babies back in the shampoo bowl and it became an entire war! NOT IN 2025! 4) No I will NOT color their hair blue, pink, or any other pastel color so they can look like their favorite rapper. 5) Be your child’s BIGGEST & LOUDEST cheerleader. If you don’t tell them they’re beautiful, they won’t know it. YOUR VOICE MATTERS TO THEM! 6) Allow them to have some sort of individuality! Just because you like to have a buss down middle part doesn’t mean your child does. She may want to look like the next First Black Female President and guess what, IM GON’ LET HER! Because it’s my shop and I can do that! THANK YA! 7) Make sure they understand the assignment when they step outside the car. Example: 🗣️ “Listen lil girl, when you get in here give Mr. Sam what he wants when he turns that camera on. I’m talking face, personality, and a big smile like it’s the picture day at school! Now don’t get in here acting shy, you know what to do! If you don’t he may not do your hair anymore”. 8) Make sure they are as sweet as this baby. I affectionately call her my chocolate drop! She’s always so precious and you know she’s loved by the way her mom shows her. As far as relaxers being damaging to the client’s hair, can we say that miseducation and improper application can very well be damaging in itself? What I mean is when you don’t have the knowledge surrounding relaxers, it’s difficult for you to properly assess the client’s hair and know what type of relaxer they need. Or if you don’t know how to properly apply the relaxer you can mess up a beautiful head of hair by overlapping on previously relaxed hair. That’s another subject for another day 😔 As far as the cancer piece goes I understand the severity of it and how they try to warn you from getting them, but let’s be honest, we consume things DAILY (food wise) that cause cancer and we’ve heard for years that they do but we STILL EAT THEM don’t we?!?!? YES I DO! So I said all of that to say “Do what works for you”! As for me, I’ve never had any issues with relaxers and I’ve been doing them for over 22yrs. Everyone isn’t meant to walk around with unruly hair. I love you all for real but I’m going to always advocate for “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Those TCB and Hawaiian Silky Relaxers had you all with hair down your backs in the 90’s. Nothing has changed - methods have! They still work!
