Russell Vought, nominee for director of the Office of Management and Budget, said President Joe Biden’s executive order forgiving some student loan debt was “an example of the Biden administration’s unwillingness to follow the law.” Vought spoke at his confirmation hearing Wednesday held by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs in response to a question asked by Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, about executive overreach. Moreno asked if Vought considered Democratic senators hypocritical in questioning Vought’s willingness to curb executive powers in President-elect Donald Trump's upcoming term. “I note that I did not find any outrage on the Democratic side with regard to President Biden’s actions on that, and I’ll just leave it at that,” Vought said. Vought, a Project 2025 co-author, briefly led OMB at the end of Trump’s first term. The agency may play a larger role in Trump’s second term as the incoming president has promised to dramatically cut the federal workforce.
