I used to think I needed to present my gardening in a way that made it fit the recovery narrative, like I had to justify it. But honestly? Years ago I used to sh00t dope and now I just garden on the daily because I like it. Does it help me in a lot of ways? Absolutely. But I don’t need to frame it as some redemption story to make it more acceptable in others eyes. * I know the last time I said something like this someone from the gardening in recovery community took offense. This is in no way a dig at anyone who considers their use recovery. There was a time it was part of mine. But I don’t identify as in recovery and letting go of the 42o recovery label was part of my healing. I have a lot of recovery trauma and being able to let go of trying to fit in the recovery mold was a huge part of my healing journey.
