This past week, my husband and I have been at a surf camp in Brazil. I’ve been surfing on and off for 7 years, and he’s been surfing consistently for the last 2. We both started in the beginner class, but by day two, they told him to move to intermediate—and I was told to stay in beginner. At first, it stung. My ego was like, “Wait, I introduced him to surfing! How is he ahead of me now 🤣😂😅?” But the truth hit me in the waves: 1️⃣ Consistency is King (or Queen): My husband has surfed way more than I have over the past two years, while I’ve just enjoyed surfing here and there (I call myself a “summer surfer”). No matter when you start, the person who puts in the time and effort will outpace the one who doesn’t—and that’s okay. 2️⃣ Surf your own surf: Spencer is all about improving, catching bigger waves, and pushing himself. I realized I’ve always loved staying in the whitewater because it’s my fun zone. Surfing is my way to play and be free—not to compete. Same with life: your goals or your “why” don’t have to look like anyone else’s. When I reconnected to my intention, I was reminded why I want to surf in the first place and the joy came back. 3️⃣ Beginner vibes, always: Starting over felt humbling. After 7 years of doing things my way, staying in the beginner class was frustrating, but it also showed me how much I had to unlearn. Building a solid foundation isn’t a setback—it’s a launchpad for growth. This surf camp was a reminder that growth requires honesty, humility, play, and consistency. Whether you’re shredding big waves or chilling in the whitewater, the key is to honor your journey. 🌊✨ What’s your “surfing” in life—something you do for joy, growth, or both?! 🏄🏻♀️
