I do these types of floating sprints from all different distances and transitions at the start. Some of them I start with a forward somersault, back flips, or even an open turn. It’s also fun to change up the distance from the wall the swimmers are floating, so they have to work on producing speed from essentially nothing and then - carrying that speed into the wall. It also forces swimmers to adjust their stroke counts to hit the wall well too! Want to perfect your starts and turns? Swim drills can often be reinforced and isolated on land in a concentrated way. Eliminating other variables allows swimmers to focus on one key point at a time. And the extra resistance from loading devices like bands or weights is great feedback for encouraging good technique and position, or discouraging flaws.
